Hi ALberto11 – A parasomnia is when someone performs any daytime behaviour when they are asleep…this can be walking, talking, eating or even driving. We always try to determine what stage of sleep someone is in when they do this behaviour because there are two main types of parasomnia a REM Parasomnia (happens during Rapid Eye Movement Sleep) or a Non-REM Parasomnia (it does not happen in REM). The reason we need to know this is because parasomnias in REM can be dangerous as the individual can act out aggressive dreams and hurt themselves or someone else!
